Begin by removing the post cap and ensuring there is a ½” gap between the rails. Lower the stiffener into the post, potentially needing to adjust the rails to facilitate its insertion fully. For added stability, consider pouring a few cups of wet concrete down each post, providing a secure base for the stiffener. Subsequently, affix a #10 x 1” self-tapping stainless steel screw toward the top of the post, positioned either in the front or back, to prevent rattling of the post with the aluminum insert.

Alternatively, installing an extra rail stiffener onto the top rail serves to reduce flex and fortify the entire fence structure.

Ensuring Stability: The U-Channel

Proper installation involves securing the u-channel to the post with 3-4 screws, enhancing stability. This element not only conceals picket edges but also provides crucial support, particularly in privacy fence configurations. Ensuring the u-channel's secure attachment minimizes vulnerabilities in the fence's vertical framework.

Tongue and groove (T&G) pickets, characteristic of privacy fences, derive strength from their collective unity while retaining flexibility to accommodate temperature fluctuations. In regions prone to strong winds, it's advisable to reinforce the pickets by fastening them to the rails. Utilize #10 x 1" self-tapping stainless-steel screws, which are readily available at your local hardware store. Install the screws on the back side of the panel, ensuring they are not visible. Exercise caution to avoid overtightening or stripping the screws. Each picket should be affixed with one screw at both the top and bottom rails on one side of the fence only.
